How we choose
How a gift gets on a page, how the order is decided, and where every number and every sentence comes from.
What gets in
Every gift on this site is sold by NetFlorist, a South African retailer that delivers nationwide. A product is on a page because NetFlorist itself files it under the category that matches the page (birthday gifts for her, gifts for dad, sympathy, hampers, same-day delivery in Durban) and shows it in the first forty-eight of that category in its own order. We read the whole catalogue (6 196 products on 7 September 2026) so you do not have to. We do not add products by guessing what fits, and we do not test them.
The order
Each gift on a page is scored, and the page is that score in descending order, with a few plain rules on top. The score rewards, in this order: where NetFlorist places the item in the category that matches the page (an exact match such as "birthday gifts for mom" counts more than the broad "birthday gifts"); how many of its buyers have reviewed it and how well; and whether the price sits in the range people actually spend on a gift. It subtracts for very cheap items on pages for adults and for products whose buyers have been unhappy. Anything out of stock on the day we read the catalogue is left out.
The rules on top: the No. 1 on a page for an adult is at least R250; a page for a person on an occasion (birthday gifts for dad) borrows that person's strongest picks at reduced weight, at most five of its first dozen; pages for children exclude alcohol, perfume and anything filed for adults; one product appears once per page even when it comes in several sizes; the first six picks hold at most two of a kind, and no product leads more than four lists. A page needs at least twelve qualifying gifts, or it waits. Milestone birthdays and a few people NetFlorist has no category for (sister, brother, teenage girls) are built from the nearest lists and say so on the page.
The notes
The note under each gift is ours: what the thing is, who it suits and who should skip it. It is written from the product's own description and its category, in plain language, and it is checked for hype words before it goes up. We have not handled these products and the notes do not pretend otherwise.
Prices, reviews and photos
Prices are shown as bands in rand, from NetFlorist's prices last read on 7 September 2026; the exact figure is on the retailer page and it moves. Buyer reviews inform the order and are never shown as star figures or counts, because they are NetFlorist's to display, not ours. Product photos are NetFlorist's own product shots. The scene photographs on the hub pages (by person, by occasion, by kind) are generated illustrations made for this site, not photographs of products.
Who is responsible
gift4 is edited by its owner. The "Describe them" box uses the DeepSeek model through OpenRouter; it can only choose from gifts already on this site. Corrections and questions: hello@gift4.co.za. See also privacy and contact.
What we do not do
We do not rank by commission; the order is decided before any retailer link exists, and every link on the site pays the same rate. We do not publish a page the catalogue cannot fill. We do not invent freshness; a page's date moves only when its ranking changes. We do not imply that anything is in stock or will arrive on a date: the retailer page shows the next delivery date for your area.
Coverage right now
756 gifts across 142 pages, drawn from 556 NetFlorist categories.
Disclosure
gift4 earns a commission from NetFlorist when you buy through a link here. It does not change the price you pay.
